2016 – 2017 Teaching Services and Fees

  • One-hour Lecture:  $450
  • Shipping and insurance charges are extra for trunk shows
  • Six-hour Workshop:  $750
  • Three-hour Workshop:  $400
  • Multi-day Workshop Fee: $700/day
  • Kits for workshops are additional to the workshop fee and vary in price, depending upon the workshop. Kit fees listed are for the current year. They may change each year if fabric prices increase. The kit fees listed on a signed contract will be honored.
  • Classes are limited to 25 students per class and are also based on the available working space for the students. Kathy can teach a larger class size but an additional $25 per additional student is added to her workshop fee.

2016 – 2017 Judging Services and Fees

Kathy has experience judging at local, regional and national shows. Since 1999, she has judged over 9,000 quilts in 60 quilt shows. She uses the elimination system for judging quilt shows and provides a judging form and volunteer instructions with her contract. Kathy can judge a maximum of 130 quilts per day. In fairness to Kathy and the entrants, she will not judge more than 8 hours per day. Kathy gives 5-7 comments per quilt. Her complete judging resume is available upon request for shows considering this service. Shows often combine her judging, teaching and appraisal services.

Fee:  $500/day

2016 – 2017 Appraisal Services and Fees

Kathy became an AQS Certified Appraiser of Quilted Textiles in 2001. She is experienced in appraising antique, vintage and new quilts as well as wearable art. Typed appraisals include a description of the quilt, its condition, history, appraised value and photo of the quilt. Verbal consultations are for quilt dating and suggestions for care and repair. A verbal consultation is $30 and does not include a written appraisal or quilt value. Appraisal days are sponsored by guilds, shops, shows or museums. Quilts may be brought in or hanging in a show. Each appraisal appointment takes 30 minutes. Suggested advertising and an appointment schedule is included with a contract. If a guild or show schedules 10 or more appraisals, the guild receives $5 from each appraisal.

Fee: Written Appraisals – $55/quilt; Verbal Consultations – $30/quilt

2016 – 2017 Contract Requirements

  • Services are secured with a signed contract (provided by Kathy). A $100 non-refundable deposit is due with the contract. The final payment for all work is due at the completion of Kathy’s services.
  • The cancellation of a contract must be made at least 90 days prior to the date of the trip. All efforts should be made to fill the workshops prior to cancelling. The deposit is forfeited. Weather-related problems may result in a postponement of a contract.
  • Kathy’s minimum amount of combined work for an out-of-town trip is $1,000. This minimum is in addition to her travel costs or kit fees.
  • All round-trip travel expenses including:
    • Food during long travel days (receipts will be provided)
    • Airfare (Kathy flies on American Airlines out of Springfield, Missouri)
    • Kathy watches for the most reasonable airfare and will contact the guild or show when she finds a good fare to obtain permission to purchase the tickets. Kathy’s non-refundable airfare fee is reimbursed to her immediately after she purchases the tickets.
    • Airline luggage charges (currently $25 for the 1st bag, $35 for the 2nd bag, each way)
    • Shipping and insurance expenses for trunk shows
    • Airport parking (currently $12 per day)
    • Round-trip mileage from Kathy’s home to the airport (reimbursed at the IRS allowable rate at the time of the trip – currently .575/mile)
    • If Kathy is driving to a guild or show, the round-trip mileage is reimbursed from Kathy’s home to the guild city plus driving to and from the meetings. Note: Kathy prefers flying to a guild or show but will drive to a guild or show that is 7 hours or less from her home.
    • Kathy requires a non-smoking private room in a hotel with an inside entrance; an elevator is required if room is not on the first floor. She does not stay in homes because she needs quiet time so she can give her best during her times of teaching,
    • Kathy will need help carrying and loading her suitcases at the airport and to and from her lectures and classes. Please make sure the driver can help to load items and has a car big enough to handle two large suitcases and a carry-0n suitcase.
    • Travel expenses are to be equally divided between guilds on a multi-city trip. Those arrangements must be worked out between the two guilds prior to the trip.
